Marie-José v.d. Heijden lives and works in Oegstgeest, the Netherlands. Since 2007 she has been a professional artist. Her interest in drawing and painting developed already at a young age. In 1992 she began watercolor classes at the Vrije Academie Dever in Sassenheim. There she switched six years later to working with acrylic paint. Over the years her paintings, watercolours and drawings changed from figurative to abstract. Her works have found their way in the Netherlands, Belgium, Sweden and France.

I paint intuitively. I lose my way and take an unfamiliar route. I find my way and go back to where I started…for a while. Then I start all over again.

During the creative process, I apply areas of colour: acrylic to canvas, an adventure, destination unknown. I scrape away the paint, I paint over again, I turn the canvas… I am inspired by the sea, the beach, shells and pebbles, stones, landscape.

Born and living in the Netherlands.
